Prospective International Graduate Student Information and Requirements

 

The University of Central Missouri is a highly accredited university that is recognized across the world for academic excellence. We are one of the most affordable universities in the USA. UCM is home to more than 3,427 international students from 55 countries. We have the academic support services and student support resources in place to help you every step of the way—from applying to enrolling to settling into your new life at UCM.

The international admissions process varies depending on your student type and whether you are pursuing an undergraduate degree or graduate degree. In general, students pursuing a bachelor’s degree are classified as undergraduate. Below you will find admissions requirements explained for your student type.

 

Online Application

This fee is $75.00 USD and non-refundable. 

Application Deadlines:

International students applying to UCM should be aware of the following deadlines. We recommend submitting your application one to two months in advance when possible to allow time for I-20 processing and the visa interview process.

Demonstration of English Proficiency

Review the IEP Descriptions Guide to understand enrollment requirements based on your English Proficiency test score.

 

Accepted English Proficiency Exams:

  • UCM is part of the TOEFL  Partnership Program. We invite you to explore TOEFL iBT as an option to demonstrate English proficiency. An exam score of 79 IBT is required.
  • IELTS exam score of 6.0
  • Duolingo composite exam score of 120
  • UCM Proficiency Test of 79
  • UCM is part of the Oxford ELLT Program. We invite you to explore Oxford ELLT as an option to demonstrate English proficiency. An exam score of 7 is required.

Please Note: If you do not meet the minimum English proficiency score requirements, your application will be updated to indicate an English requirement. You will then be required to start with the English Language Institute upon arrival at UCM.

Waiving English Proficiency Requirements:

  • Attended at least two years at a high school in the United States
  • Earned 24 credit hours at a regionally accredited university in the United States
  • Graduated from a secondary school accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
  • IB English A (SL) or (HL) with a score of 5* 
  • IB English B (HL) with a score of 5*
  • IB English B (SL) with a score of 6*

*IB predicted scores are accepted if they are sent directly from your school to intladmit@ucmo.edu

If you are from one of the countries below, you will receive a waiver of proof of English Proficiency:

American Samoa, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Islands, Gambia, Ghana, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, The Pacific Islands of Palau, the Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Transcripts

All graduate students are required to upload unofficial transcripts to their student portal (created upon application submission) and submit official transcripts to our office. These transcripts will be used for advisement purposes. Students must have an awarded bachelor's degree from either a U.S. regionally accredited 4-year institution or an international institution that upon transcript evaluation is equivalent to a 4-year regionally accredited institution.  Any graduate level course work taken else where must be a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above to be admissible to UCM Graduate Studies.

Declaration of Financial Support

This document is required to demonstrate sufficient financial support while attending UCM.

 

Official Bank Statement/Certification

This document is necessary to show that you have enough money available to cover your tuition fees and living costs while studying at UCM. The bank statement must be translated into English.
